Objective: to develop basic practical skills and understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals among schoolchildren through solving tasks in the Capture The Flag (CTF) format, fostering analytical and creative thinking in the context of information protection.
Tasks:
Introduction to cybersecurity fundamentals: provide an understanding of key information security threats (malware, phishing, software vulnerabilities, network and web-application attacks) and basic protection principles
Development of practical skills: teach the application of tools and methods for solving tasks in CTF categories: cryptography, steganography, web application vulnerability analysis and exploitation (Web), reverse engineering (Reversing), network traffic analysis (Forensics/Pwning), hidden information search (Misc/OSINT)
Formation of CTF thinking: develop the ability to analyze tasks, find non-standard solutions, decompose complex problems, effectively search for information, and work with documentation
Development of teamwork: practice communication skills and role distribution when solving tasks in a team (during the final stages of the course)
Understanding ethical norms: form a clear understanding of the boundaries of ethical behavior in the field of information security, the importance of responsible vulnerability disclosure, and compliance with legislation
Increasing motivation and interest: arouse interest in professions in the field of information security and related IT areas through game-based and competitive formats
Upon completion of the course, students should:
Know: main CTF task categories; basic principles of cryptography, steganography, network and web-application operation; common types of vulnerabilities; main analysis tools (Wireshark, Burp Suite Community, steghide, binwalk, strings, etc.); ethical norms and legislative restrictions in the field of information security
Be able to: analyze a given task; apply appropriate tools and methods for solving tasks in Crypto, Stego, Web, Forensics, Reversing categories (basic level); search for necessary information and documentation; work in a team on solving CTF tasks; format found flags
Be proficient in: skills in working with basic CTF tools; data analysis skills (files, traffic, code); skills in searching for and using exploits; basic skills of team interaction in CTF
Service provision period: throughout the entire academic year, from September 20 to May 31
Duration: 10 weeks (once a week for 3 academic hours)
Number of hours: 30 hours – classroom work, 60 hours – methodological work
Minimum number of people in a group: 8
